THE PROBLEM

Novert Group was never meant to be a company. It began as a response to a failure — the failure of an entire industry to evolve.

The last real evolution in close protection came in the early 1980s. Since then the world has changed beyond recognition. The threats changed. The technology changed. Human behaviour changed. The doctrine didn't.

THE MAN

At the centre of rebuilding it is Lucas Atkins — protection strategist, instructor, and the architect of a modern protective doctrine.

Lucas spent twenty years at the sharp end of the profession. He joined the Australian Federal Police in 2006 and became a close personal protection officer — guarding Israeli and US Ambassadors, then two serving Australian Prime Ministers. The work took him into war zones and hostile environments across the world, including two deployments into Afghanistan.

He went on to train the AFP's own specialists, then deployed to Papua New Guinea to build a nation's close-protection capability from nothing for APEC 2018 — standing up a specialist training centre and training 450 protection police and 65 advanced drivers. After the AFP, he spent eight years running high-threat security overseas: preparing diplomats and media for the world's hardest postings — and taking them in himself when it counted — before leading protection operations across four diplomatic posts in Indonesia. In all, his work has spanned more than a dozen countries, from Afghanistan and Iraq to PNG, Jordan, the Philippines and beyond.

But it isn't the résumé that makes his work different. It's what he did with it.

THE TURNING POINT

Most operators finish their career and teach exactly what they were taught. Lucas did the opposite. He pulled the whole model apart and asked a harder question: why does protection drill the body for decades and never once train the mind — the mind of the person doing the job, or the mind of the person being protected?

That question wouldn't leave him. And it took him somewhere the syllabus never goes.

It sent him deep into applied behavioural science, psychotherapy, and the neurobiology of how a human being actually performs under pressure — why people freeze, why they miss the obvious, why the calm ones survive.

And it sent him further still. To the Sacred Valley of Peru — sitting with shamans, in ceremony, in stillness, among the oldest technologies of the human mind. The warrior had gone looking for the seeker. And somewhere in that silence, thousands of miles from any detail he'd ever worked, the idea for Novert arrived.

Because the world split the warrior from the seeker a long time ago. It told one to harden and the other to retreat. Lucas spent two decades as one — and went looking for the other. What he found was that they were never meant to be separate. The most dangerous person in a room and the most at peace can be the same person.

THE DOCTRINE

What came back wasn't a system built on fear and reaction. It was built on clarity, adaptation, and control under pressure.

That became Variable Protective Postures — a fluid, posture-based operating system that replaces rigid templates with real-time decision-making, movement, and psychological precision.

From the same core came Threatagility — non-templated threat detection and adaptive awareness, grounded in how the brain and body actually read danger. It works for a child learning to trust their instinct. For an executive reading a room. For an operator managing exposure at the highest level.

And it gave a name to something the industry never had language for. For decades, protection ran in two modes: overt or covert. Seen, or blended in. But there was no word for protection that moves without signature, without signal, without being read at all.

So it was named. Novert. Not just a term — a discipline. A space where protection dissolves into the environment, where presence is embedded rather than displayed, and where the most powerful move is the one nobody sees coming.

THE MISSION

That's why Novert Group exists: to take the knowledge locked behind uniforms, clearances, and closed doors, and put it into the hands of the people who were never given access to it.

It trains elite operators. It develops civilians. It equips parents and young people. It sharpens executives and professionals. It builds people who move through the world with awareness, composure, and quiet control — not through fear, not through paranoia, but through genuine skill anyone can be taught.

Because the instinct was always in you. Nobody ever showed you how to use it.
